THY Turkish DC-8 in 1/50th scale

Postby Henry Tenby » Fri Sep 06, 2013 2:53 pm

In the early 1960s THY Turkish Airlines – Turk Hava Yollari considered ordering DC-8s from Douglas as the airline’s long range jet transport. Back in the day, the Douglas model shop produced 1/50 scale presentation models but they have long since vanished leaving us with only an artist’s impression of what a THY DC-8 might have looked like.

At DC-8Models.com we are contacted by a model collector who asked if we could produce one of our 1/50 metal DC-8 models for him to match the Douglas artist’s impression, and our graphic design person did an excellent job replicating this amazing period colour scheme.

This one-off custom DC-8 airline display model is made of cast and polished aircraft grade aluminum, measuring 36 inches long in 1/50th scale, and carries the name “Istanbul” and was produced in August, 2013 and delivered to the customer in early September, 2013.
